Smith allows outside scholarships and employer tuition benefits to first replace the student employment opportunity in the financial aid offer. Outside aid in excess of student employment will reduce Smith College need-based grant aid that would otherwise be provided. Students may be able to replace lost Smith Grant to assist with the purchase of a personal computer once during their time at Smith.

The travel component of the cost of attendance varies from $150 to $1,700 depending on your state of residence. For most students, the travel component is covered in part by earnings from the student employment opportunity during the academic year.
Most students cover their own personal, book, and travel expenses from their student employment earnings during the academic year. The student employment component of the financial aid offer increases moderately after the student’s first year.
Students must submit the FAFSA each year and federal verification documents if required by the Department of Education. Students must be enrolled full time at Smith, and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
The award is available for a maximum of eight semesters of enrollment.
QuestBridge Match students qualify for Smith’s $1,000 Start-Up Grant, in addition to any other aid awarded. Smith offers this grant in order to support high-need students with the expenses associated with the beginning of college. The Start-Up Grant will be sent directly to each qualifying student at the beginning of the first Fall semester, and can be used for anything the student would find helpful as they begin their Smith experience.
