Policy on Outside Funding

Skidmore College allows a student to receive the full benefit of an outside scholarship and will reduce a student's loan and/or work-study and/or family contribution by the full amount of the outside scholarship. A student's total aid package cannot exceed a student's cost of attendance in a given year. When all grants and scholarships exceed the cost of attendance, the Skidmore grant will be reduced.

Policy on Health Insurance

Skidmore requires that all registered, full-time students carry health insurance coverage, either through the Skidmore Health Insurance Plan, or through another plan which provides comparable coverage.  Students who do not qualify to waive participation in the Skidmore Health Insurance Plan may qualify for additional Skidmore grant funds to cover the cost of the Skidmore Health Insurance Plan depending upon their financial circumstances.

Policy on Travel Allowance

Students are expected to pay for their own travel expenses from summer or academic year earnings.

Students taking a semester abroad are not able to participate in work-study during that semester and may borrow a student loan to replace the $1,300 work-study award.

Policy on Student Contribution

Students are expected to work over the summer and contribute toward their travel expenses, books, personal expenses and supplies.  The minimum summer earnings expectations are:

First Year: $2,000
Second Year: $2,200
Third Year: $2,300
Fourth Year: $2,400

Requirements Associated with Maintaining this Award
