Student Resource Center

While many college resources exist, none are dedicated to addressing the issues from the perspective of a smart, highly-motivated low-income high school student. QuestBridge's resource center does exactly that.

Student Resource Center

The Quest organization has spent the last 14 years working with high-performing, highly-motivated, low-income students. Through our five-week summer enrichment program, Quest has helped these students prepare for and apply to the nation's best colleges and universities. We have been successful in this endeavor. During the past 12 years, we have worked with 260 students all of whom have been accepted into a top-ranked college - 72% of those students were accepted into Harvard University or Stanford University.

Along the way, the organization has learned a lot about the barriers and traps that low-income students face. This Resource Center is a compendium of the lessons learned and advice that has proven successful for low-income students.

We have organized the Resource Center into four sections: Preparing for College, Applying to College, and Paying for College. Each Section starts with a timeline: what to do and when to do it. From the timeline, we link in our advice about how to do something or how to think about a specific issue before making a decision. Below is a quick summary of each section.

Preparing for College
Preparing for College starts well before your senior year in high school. Preparation starts as early as 9th grade. You need to choose the right classes throughout high school. Also, you should make the most of your summers between years by considering summer enrichment programs and making community service a part of your education. Also, we will advise you on when to schedule and how to prepare for standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT.

Applying to College
Before applying to college, you need to make sure you choose the right ones. Finding the right match for you is the most important thing you can do. Also, applying to college is not as straightforward as it should be. There are plenty of non-obvious strategies for increasing your chance of acceptance. Writing your application essays well can set you apart from other candidates.

Paying for College
As a low-income student, this is where the rubber meets the road. You need to have a firm understanding of financial aid if you want to make attending a top-ranked college a reality. You also need to make the most of online scholarship resources. See our extensive list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to round out your knowledge.

Additionally, the issue of economic diversity is a hot topic in the halls of higher education. Visit our list of current, interesting articles about this subject.
