QuestBridge Fein Fellows

If you are a Jewish high school student who meets the QuestBridge criteria of high academic skill, economic need, and demonstrated leadership potential, you will automatically be considered for an additional awards program offered by the Edward Fein Foundation, a special awards program aimed at reaching Jewish students. The College Prep Scholarship application deadline is March 31, 2008.

2008 is the first year that we are offering the Fein Fellow award.

About the Scholarship

Through the Edward Fein Foundation Scholarship Awards program at QuestBridge, the Foundation seeks to ensure access to higher education for high achieving Jewish students who may lack the financial resources necessary to secure the highest quality education available.

The Edward Fein Foundation Scholarship Awards program at QuestBridge is open to all Jewish high school students who meet the QuestBridge criteria of high academic skill, economic need and demonstrated leadership potential.

Qualifying students selected as "Fein Fellows" will be rewarded for their high academic achievement with scholarships to prestigious university-based summer programs, laptop computers and scholarships for SAT preparation courses. In addition, Fein Fellows will be offered:

  • One-on-one college essay counseling with a trained Quest editor to discuss essay topics and the mechanics of a successful college essay. Editors will personally review submitted drafts of essays and offer feedback for improvement.

  • Automatic invitation to one of two College Prep Conferences nationwide where winners of the Edward Fein Foundation Scholarship Awards will join CPS College Counseling prize winners and meet with individual counselors face-to-face and personally discuss the important aspects of the college application process. (Face-to-face meetings are subject to some geographic limitations.)

  • An evaluation of each student's academic profile and suggestions on possible actions to take to improve an applicant's prospects. Items may include which classes to take during a student's senior year and whether or not to retake the SATs.

  • Help with completing the college application and advice on how to balance and fill out each section effectively.

  • Answers to financial aid questions and guidance in completing and submitting the FAFSA and CSS PROFILE.

  • Information to help students make the most informed decisions about the process, including how to choose where to apply and where to ultimately enroll.

History

The Edward Fein Foundation is the vision of Edward Fein. Born in Brooklyn, New York to Jewish immigrant parents, Edward Fein built a highly successful career on Wall Street as a financial analyst and stockbroker. Retired since 1972, he relocated to the West Coast and developed an interest in helping others pursue their educational dreams.

His foundation, the Edward Fein Foundation, recognizes the responsibilities that come with success and has focused on issues of access to education and leadership opportunities, and also has a particular interest in Jewish continuity and education. The Foundation is dedicated to supporting innovative educational programs that support its vision.
