2009 QuestBridge College Admissions Conference Schedule

Registration begins

9:00 am

Welcome: Jeff Brenzel, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions at Yale University, will deliver the opening remarks.

9:45 am

Morning Workshops: Attendees will rotate between two workshops:

  • Financial Aid: This workshop will provide an overview of the college financial aid process, and will focus on how selective private colleges and universities can actually be more affordable for low-income students than state universities.

  • The Personal Statement: This workshop will offer strategies for crafting a successful college essay, including how students can present their achievements in light of obstacles they have overcome.

12:15 pm

Lunch and Campus Tours: Conference attendees will have the opportunity to take a student-guided tour of the campus.

2:00 pm

Afternoon Workshops: Attendees will rotate between two sessions:

  • National College Match: This presentation will provide an overview of the QuestBridge National College Match program, including the application process.

  • Discussions with College Admissions Officers: In these small-group workshops, attendees will learn directly from admissions officers about how they read and evaluate applications, and how students can prepare a strong college application.

Parents of attendees will attend a session that covers the college admissions process and how to assist students in preparing a competitive application.

4:30 pm

Presentation: Choosing the right college and making the most of it: QuestBridge co-founder Michael McCullough will draw on 20 years of experience in advising students to discuss how to select which college to attend and how to take full advantage of the college experience.

5:30 pm

College Fair: Partner college representatives will be present to talk with students one-on-one.

6:30 pm
