Outside scholarships in excess of $2400 will eliminate both the student contribution and work study with the amount over $2400 reducing the amount of the Washington and Lee Grant on a dollar for dollar basis. Outside scholarships may not be deferred to subsequent years.

Health Insurance
Washington and Lee requires all students to have health insurance. If a student is not covered by an insurance plan, the Washington and Lee grant will be increased to pay for the Washington and Lee student health insurance plan.

Other Details
The work study component of $1200 allows for 5 hours of work per week for first-year students. For sophomores, juniors and seniors, this component of the aid award will increase to $2400 to allow for 10 hours of work per week, and the Washington and Lee Grant will decrease by $1200.

Students may choose to replace their work-study eligibility and/or student summer work contribution with a loan.

The allowance for room and board includes a full meal plan and the average cost of a room on campus. If a student chooses to have a single room, the cost of the room above the average cost of a room on campus will not be covered by the Washington and Lee Grant, and will reduce the amount of money the student has left for books and personal expenses and/or may require the student to contribute towards the cost of the room.

The travel allowance will be determined by the student's home address. A $50 travel allowance is built into the personal expenses component of the cost of attendance. The Washington and Lee grant will be increased by the amount of the travel allowance in excess of $50.

Students must maintain full time student status and remain academically eligible to receive this award.

Special Note
The award letter is not official unless it comes from Washington and Lee; the QuestBridge "award letter" does not represent a commitment from the college.
