Scholarship Details

These numbers are based on costs for the 2010-2011 school year. Amounts will change slightly from year to year, but as the cost of college increases, the scholarship packages will correspondingly increase.

Outside Scholarships
Outside scholarships up to $4,180 may be used to reduce a student's summer and term-time employment requirements. Scholarships in excess of $4,180 will be used to reduce the University of Chicago grant.

Health Insurance
The University of Chicago requires all students to have health insurance, either through their parents or another plan. If the student is not covered by a parental plan, the Chicago grant will be increased to cover the basic student health plan.

Other Details
The cost of travel will vary depending on student location. Students who reside more than 150 miles from Chicago will receive an additional Chicago grant to subsidize a portion of the travel costs.

The student contribution from savings varies depending on the total assets a student has. Typically, a student is expected to contribute one-fourth of the reported assets during each of the four years of undergraduate enrollment.

Requirements associated with maintaining this award
  • Full-time enrollment
  • Completion of 75% of courses in which student is enrolled
  • Minimum GPA of 1.75 in the first two years, 2.0 thereafter.
